How it Works

Welcome to The Great Northwest Glass Quest – Winter 2012
The City of Stanwood and Camano Island are delighted to welcome you to the Third Annual Great Northwest Glass Quest.

Brought to you by the Stanwood/Camano Winter Tourism Committee, the Quest is part of a 10-day invitation to “Spend a Day on the Edge” of  Puget Sound, to enjoy the Olympic and Cascade Mountain vistas and the glorious winter beauty of our parks and beaches as well as the unique Scandinavian history that is Stanwood/Camano.

You may choose to tour working farms, parks and beaches, quaint shops for antique lovers, museums, galleries, and many more of the distinctive businesses that await you. You can find recommendations for food and accommodations here. You can also visit our nature preserves and take guided tours to learn about the unique birding opportunities during the Snow Goose Festival.  www.snowgoosefest.org

Do all this while you join the Quest for some of the most famous art glass in the Northwest! Over 200 exclusive hand-made works of art await you!!

Join the Quest - The First Steps:

Beginning February 17, 2012, pick up your Quest Event Booklet with Quest Map at one of the two Visitor Information Centers located in Stanwood at 8725 271st Street NW and on Camano Island at Terry’s Corner, or at any of the participating businesses or galleries. A Quest Decal in the window will mark the participating businesses.

Finding Quest Sites:

All great quests are fraught with obstacles and ours is no different. Alas, you will not find matchless works of art ready to be plucked just anywhere. You will find opportunities to have fun and discover our Northwest lifestyle as you search for the hidden ‘clueball’ that will lead you to your goal.

Consult your Quest Map in the Quest Event Booklet to locate Quest sites. Sites include beaches, parks, farms, trails, businesses, restaurants, and local accommodations.  Your goal will be to find a ‘clueball’ – a small clear globe, snowball-size - hidden within the business or at the site listed.  Once you locate one, simply follow the instructions inside the ‘clueball’ and return it to the participating business. This business will trade the ‘clueball’ for an authentic Quest 2012 Snowball.

Each Snowball is hand-blown by artist, Mark Ellinger, signed, dated and numbered. Swirling patterns of snowflakes and sparkling color adorn the ball creating an inimitable beauty and making each a rare collectible. You will want to come back year after year to add to your collection!

Of course, Questing should be done with stealth and cunning so as not to interrupt your host business or alert others who may be on the same mission.  Chivalrous manners are welcome at all times. Please return the ‘clueball’ intact to the participating business!

Yikes!!!  What If your Quest is unfulfilled? Will you go home empty-handed?

If after pursuing your Quest, a prize eludes you - all is not lost!!

You can participate in our free drawing for 2012 Quest Snowballs by simply asking for a stamp from the businesses you visit. Collect 5 stamps on the tear-off ticket at the back of your Quest Event Booklet, then drop off the ticket at one of the Visitors Information Centers, the designated galleries or a participating business to enter the drawing.  The drawing will take place in March 2012 and the winners will be notified by e-mail or phone; you need not be present to win.

If you prefer, bring your ticket with five stamps to one of two galleries which will have unlimited editions of 2012 Quest Snowballs for you to purchase. Your ticket with 5 stamps entitles you to a special Glass Quest 2012 discounted price of 30% off the retail price.   In Stanwood, visit the Gallery by the Bay, 8700 271st Street NW (360-629-4297) and, on Camano Island, come to the Seagrass Gallery, 370 N. E. Camano Drive (360-387-8300).

Enjoy the Quest and ‘Spend a Day on the Edge’ of Puget Sound. The friendly people of Stanwood and Camano are proud to share their community with you.

We hope you have “a Ball”!
